I'm here as Mac user that began it's IT career coding on SCO Unix servers, then had to migrate to windows where coding in C is was a nightmare (win2000 age) then I had the opportunity to work my own project, tried fedora Ubuntu mandriva etc, every Linux distro had is strong caveat, then a girlfriend that owned a MacBook coz she was in entertainment and used it for video things I got in love with macOS it was Linux like in an sparc or Solaris workstation but friendly, I transitioned with no regrets. I would rather envision more individuals sponsoring/supporting in kickstarter open-source software and open hardware projects such as the open-hardware VisionFive 2: running open-source Linux distros.Īctually Mac os was More s beautiful rebrand of NextSTEP which is related to BSD than commercial Unix. ![]() I would rather envision "Normal People" being nudged to support open-source software and hardware. ![]() Shouldn't "Normal People" want that? Shouldn't everybody want to see everybody reach their highest potential and contribute to see the best that humanity has to offer? When "Normal People" do not encourage/support open-source, it demonstrates Human Nature's worst traits greed and selfishness, where only a few people get a bigger slice of the opportunity/revenue pie. When placed in the hands of the under-privileged, it allows them to see (under-the-hood) and thrive. Open-Source software and especially Linux is a lot like that. Born blind, but acquired a special device to allow him to see and thrive. ![]() The best analogy I could give is Laforge from Star Trek. Not only would the open-source derived projects be better quality, they would touch the lives of even more people wouldn't have been able to afford it otherwise. It ensures "Normal people"(Federal,Provincial/State,Municipal gov included) don't consider the positive impact "open-source" could have if "Normal people" supported it monetarily, gaining synergy and ideas from unanticipated and unpredictable community.
